I have a thing for fantasy novels, especially the ones where magic plays a huge role in the plot. So here are my favourite magical reads:

Harry Potter Series by J. K Rowling with a special mention to the Goblet of Fire

Harry PotterI don’t know why but this book just makes me so happy. There is just so much magic and action and just plain awesomeness. Harry, Ron and Hermione are at that awkward early teenage years and that just makes for so many funny moments and Harry sass. (Cos we all know how sassy Harry can be.)

Dragons, half giants, merepeople and new schools, what more could we ask for?

And of course, the rise of Voldemort.

Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini

I love this series for the unique dragons. I’ve always been a tad bit obsessed with dragons, so the thought of having my own dragon and becoming a dragon rider is rather appealing. This series is filled with magic and it’s an epic for anyone who is into high fantasy.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smone and Bone CoverAh, Laini Taylor… The way this woman write is magic itself. I am super
excited about the book she is releasing in 2016. I don’t even know what it is about but I don’t care. It’s Laini Taylor, which means it’ll probably be really good.

This is a different kind of magic though, all in the form of wishes. And how are these wishes created? With pain. Intrigued yet? You should be. We’ve got a badass heroine raised by Chimaera who basically look like the monsters in your worst nightmares, an angel warrior burning handprints on all the portals to Elsewhere and a war waging between monster and angels.

The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan

Trudi Canavan is one of my favourite high fantasy authors. I discovered her Black Magician Trilogy when I was in high school. I think I might have had Harry Potter withdrawal symptoms and was probably waiting on the release of the next book.

A young woman discovers she has magical powers when she unintentionally attacks one of the Guild’s magicians. Afraid for her life she runs away and seeks protection from the Theives who control the tunnels under the city. However, her power is growing and if the Guild does not find her and take her to the University where she will learn how to control her powers she will die and possibly kill many along with her.
