I am stuck in one of those horrid reading slumps so I have not finished any books in the last two months besides After You by Jojo Moyes and Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. And I don’t think academic research counts… At this very moment I have five different books that I have started and read halfway and then put down and I am determined to finish them before I pick up anything else.

PassengerPassenger by Alexandra Bracken

When this book was first released I was super excited to get my hands on it and then when it eventually was being sold in South Africa I bought it immediately and started reading it. However, this was around the time that my first draft of my thesis was due and I ended up abandoning the book. I am 330 pages in so I intend on getting back into it as soon as I hand in my second draft…

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Cassy Clare’s work has been highly recommended and I was told to read the Infernal Devices before reading The Mortal Instrument. I’m about halfway through this one and I can’t recall why I stopped reading. I most likely got distracted by another book. Always the case.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I’ve always been wary about this series because of all the hype around it, but after watch first season of the Shadowhunters TV series I could help but be intrigued. Perhaps I was not in the right mindset but halfway through I became slightly annoyed by the way in which the friendship/relationships were developing. For some reason Jace annoys me. It seems as though I may have 1459445682528to battle through the first book. Why do I always have trouble with the first book in a series?

Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

Bad review put me off, also when I first picked up this novel I was in a contemporary mood so obviously I ended up putting it down. I’m slowly starting to crave high fantasy so this has been bump up to the top of my giant TBR list again.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne

I love the Harry Potter series too much and I have this thing about closure. I’ve only ever read The Deathly Hallows once because I don’t like reading the last book in a beloved series and it was hard enough finding closure when the series ended. And along comes Cursed Child… I’ve been struggling to get through the script. I definitely would prefer to see the play but that is not going to happen any time soon.

I am in need of tips to get me out of this reading slump. Help?

Maybe try rereading an old favourite, that usually works for me 🙂
As for City of Bones I also struggled getting into it, but I really ended up enjoying it!

Haha! I’m rereading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Hoping that it’ll help… I will definitely give City of Bones another chance. I think I just have to get past the first book.
